MOUSEHOLE, NEWLYN
& PENZANCE

My husband was born & bred in Mousehole, one of the most picturesque coastal villages you can find, and we often go there to visit his grandparents who still live in the village.
It wasn’t that long ago that the villagers earned their livelihood solely from the sea. A reminder of this is the famous Tom Bawcock’s Eve (23rd December) which celebrates the triumphant return of a local fisherman, who dared to go to sea and bring fish back for the villagers after weeks of bad weather and no fish!

Newlyn, with its fish market and rows of beam trawlers and smaller fishing boats reminds us of the men who still risk their lives daily to catch the local fish.
Chapel Street in Penzance, with its historic buildings and unusual Egyptian House is also a reminder of the past.
